Dental Bonding

Healthy Smiles for the Whole Family

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a type of cosmetic enhancement that aims to correct minor imperfections at the front of your smile. Bonding uses a composite resin material that is carefully matched to the color of your teeth. The material is then placed over areas that are flawed to essentially create a fuller, healthier-looking smile. Bonding material can last for about a decade, so you won’t need to worry about replacing it for quite some time.

Why would you need Dental Bonding?

There are many benefits to having bonding added to your smile. Many patients with gaps and spaces between their teeth can benefit from this cosmetic procedure. Others may have cracked or slightly broken teeth that are sharp, jagged and rough. Bonding can be used to fill in these areas to create a beautiful new look.

Who is a candidate for Dental Bonding?

The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for bonding is with an exam. Your front teeth should be healthy otherwise. We may suggest other treatments if your smile is decayed, severely damaged or if you have other dental-related conditions. Most patients coming into our office wanting bonding can safely have it done at their own convenience.

What happens during the Dental Bonding procedure?

The first step is for us to prep the front teeth for the new material. We do this by slightly roughing up the natural tooth surface. A bonding etching gel is added to the area and washed away. We then match the color of the resin used to the color of your teeth. The material is added to the area, smoothed into place and cured with a special dental light. You can brush the new bonded area and floss around it as you normally would. With the right care, the composite resin should stay in place for about 10 or more years before replacement is needed.
